Before You Die, Put Your House in Order

In this powerful homily for Friday, July 17, 2026, Fr. Daniel Klimek reflects on memento mori; the ancient spiritual practice of remembering that one day we will die. Death is inevitable, but contemplating it is not intended to fill us with despair. Instead, it awakens us to the importance of living every day with God and preparing our hearts for eternity. Our actions, choices, and daily decisions have eternal consequences. Fr. Daniel encourages us to put our spiritual house in order, turn away from sin, and contemplate the realities of Heaven and hell. God may draw us toward repentance through a deep love that desires to please Him or through a holy fear of being eternally separated from Him. Both remind us of what God desires to save us from and the eternal life He desires to give us. Father Chris Alar, MIC turns our attention to the Feast of the Holy Family and the profound truth it reveals about God’s design for human life. The Holy Family is not a symbol shaped by culture or preference. It is a revelation. God chose to enter history through a family — a man, a woman, and a child — and in doing so, He revealed the foundation upon which both the Church and society stand.
Today we celebrate St. Luke the Evangelist—the physician, artist, and companion of St. Paul who gave us one of the most merciful portraits of Christ in all of Scripture. In his Gospel, we meet Jesus as the Divine Physician: healing the sick, forgiving sinners, and lifting the poor and forgotten into His Heart. From the parables of mercy—the prodigal son, the lost sheep, the good Samaritan—to Christ’s words from the Cross, “Father, forgive them,” St. Luke reveals the face of a God who is infinite in compassion.
