All In for Christ: The Faith of St. Thomas
Though Thomas is often remembered for his doubt, Fr. Chris reminded us that once Thomas encountered the Risen Christ, he was completely transformed. His disbelief became a gift for the faith of generations, because through his encounter with the wounds of Jesus, Thomas gave one of the clearest proclamations of Christ’s divinity. Fr. Chris also shared how St. Thomas became a courageous missionary, bringing Christianity to India centuries before it reached many parts of Europe. In today’s Gospel (Luke 12:39–48), Jesus calls us to vigilance—to be faithful stewards who live every moment ready for the coming of the Lord. “Much will be required of the person entrusted with much,” He says. That same spirit of responsibility and readiness defined one of the greatest saints of our time: St. John Paul II.
When Jesus warns that “it will be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God” (Lk 12:21), He invites us to ask a deeper question: What truly matters to God? Wealth itself is not evil — Scripture shows that God entrusts riches to some for the good of others. But when wealth becomes our comfort, our security, or our idol, it becomes a chain that binds the soul.
On this Memorial of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Fr. Mark Baron, MIC reminds us of Christ's invitation: "Come to Me... Take My yoke upon you." Jesus is not asking us to carry more weight; He is inviting us to let Him carry our burdens with us. The Christian life begins with surrender; not self-reliance.
