In today’s homily, Fr. Tyler Mentzer, MIC, reflects on the heart of St. Peter and what his encounter with Jesus teaches us about our own lives and relationship with God. Peter feels deeply unworthy and overwhelmed by his misery. Like Peter, when we become aware of our weakness, sin, or brokenness, we may be tempted to run away from Jesus. In our darkest moments, we can also fall into the trap of relying on ourselves instead of trusting in the Lord. But our misery is not an obstacle to God’s mercy—it can become a magnet for His mercy when we have the humility to acknowledge it and receive His love. Jesus does not come to condemn us. He comes with love, mercy, kindness, and tenderness, waiting for us to open our hearts to Him even in the middle of chaos, suffering, and pain. The Lord has authority over every tragedy. When we trust in His goodness and allow Him into our hearts, that is where the true victory begins. 🙏 Trust in the Lord’s kindness. Open your heart to His mercy. The victory is in our hearts.
