You Cannot Serve Two Masters | Fr. Tyler Mentzer, MIC

Life can offer many beautiful things, but not every environment helps us remain faithful to what matters most. At those moments, we are called to discern carefully, make courageous choices, and ask ourselves whom we truly trust and serve. When we choose the Lord as our Master and place our trust in Him with all our heart and understanding, we believe that He will guide and provide for us. Scripture calls us to honor the Lord with our wealth and with the first fruits of all we receive. Ultimately, we must choose between placing our security in earthly riches or placing our confidence in God. Jesus gave everything for us, even to His dying breath. May His sacrifice inspire us to give Him our whole heart, our decisions, our families, and our lives. Fr. Chris Alar, reflects on the Parable of the Sower by emphasizing that the focus is not only on the seed, the Word of God; but even more on the condition of the soil, which represents our hearts.

While Mary’s fiat is rightly celebrated, salvation history also depended on Joseph’s quiet “yes.” Without it, Jesus would not have had the legal lineage of David, nor the protection and provision of a faithful earthly father.
On the Feast of St. Thomas Aquinas, Fr. Chris Alar, MIC, reflects on a decisive moment in his own vocation and on the gift the Church receives through reason rightly ordered to faith. Saint Thomas shows us that clarity about God’s will is not opposed to intellect but illuminated by it. As the Catechism teaches, “God can be known with certainty from created reality by the light of human reason” (“Catechism of the Catholic Church” 31).
