In this powerful homily, Fr. Chris Alar, MIC reflects on the extraordinary faith of the Gentile woman who humbly approached Jesus, trusting that even the “scraps” from the Master’s table were enough to bring healing and mercy.

Her faith reminds us that great faith can be found in unexpected places. Although she had not received the spiritual privileges given to Israel, she continued to believe, even when Jesus seemed silent. She did not walk away. She remained humble, persistent, and confident in His mercy.

Fr. Chris challenges us as Catholics to recognize how much we have received: the Eucharist, Confession, the Sacraments, the Blessed Mother, and countless graces from God. Yet sometimes those who have received less appear to trust God more deeply and make greater use of the faith they have been given.

When God seems silent, do not stop praying. His silence does not mean He has abandoned or ignored us. Sometimes He is strengthening, testing, and purifying our faith, teaching us to trust Him more completely.

The Gentile woman was willing to wait for the scraps—but what she received was the abundant mercy of Christ.

May we never take God's gifts for granted. May we approach His table with gratitude, humility, and persistent faith, remembering that Jesus is the Bread of Life, and even the smallest gift of His grace can transform our lives and lead us toward eternal life.
