The Feast of Tabernacles and Our Final Reunion with God

Fr. David Gunter, MIC, reflects on the Transfiguration of the Lord and explains how Jesus is preparing a new Exodus; one that will lead humanity into complete union with God.
He connects the Transfiguration with the Feast of Booths, also known as the Feast of Tabernacles. This Jewish feast marked the end of the harvest and recalled Israel’s journey through the wilderness, when God dwelt among His people.
Fr. Gunter explains that this mystery continues in the Church. Every Catholic church has a tabernacle, where Jesus is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. Like the Israelites in the Exodus, we are pilgrims journeying toward God, often without fully realizing that Christ is already dwelling among us.
The end of the harvest also points toward the final judgment. Those who remain faithful, worship the King, and belong to His Kingdom will share in the eternal Feast of Tabernacles.
Ultimately, the Feast of Tabernacles represents our final reunion with God—the completion of our pilgrimage and our eternal dwelling with Him.
