“Choosing the Better Part: Growing in Friendship with Jesus” | Fr. Scott Foley

Fr. Scott Foley’s teaching today focused on building a true and personal friendship with Jesus. Connecting St. Faustina’s spirituality with today’s Gospel, he explained that we are called to choose the “better part,” as Mary did, by intentionally spending time with Jesus. This does not mean neglecting our responsibilities; rather, like St. Faustina, we can faithfully carry out our daily duties while making our relationship with Jesus a special priority. Fr. Scott also pointed to the Eucharist as a privileged place to encounter Jesus personally and to grow closer to Him.

Drawing from Catechism 2709 and the teaching of St. Teresa of Avila, Fr. Scott encouraged us to see Jesus as our closest friend and to allow that friendship to deepen over time, just as every good friendship does. Jesus desires our presence, trust, and daily attention. Simple practices; such as praying, “Jesus, I trust in You,” spending time with Him, listening to His Word, and consciously bringing Him into our everyday activities—help this friendship grow. Even the smallest moments offered to Jesus are precious in the eyes of the Savior.
