Why God Treats Some People Unequally

In this teaching, Fr. Chris Alar reflects on Jesus’ parables of the Kingdom of Heaven and the extraordinary generosity of God. Like the workers called into the vineyard at different hours, we encounter God at different stages of life, yet the door of Heaven remains open even to those who turn to Him at the very end. No worker was cheated: each received what was promised, while the master was free to be generous. In the same way, God’s justice and mercy reveal a generosity far beyond what any of us could ever deserve.

This generosity is also revealed through God’s grace, the sacraments, and even the Apostolic Pardon offered to the dying. Christians are called not to envy the grace given to others—even those who come to faith at the last moment—but to rejoice whenever a soul receives God’s mercy. We work in the Lord’s vineyard not merely for a reward, but for the joy and love of serving Him. May we trust the Master, celebrate His generosity toward others, and humbly pray that He grants us the heavenly reward we could never earn on our own.

In Today's Homily, Fr. Chris Alar reflects on the tragedy of unbelief: even after witnessing Jesus’ miracles, hearing His divine teachings, and seeing clear signs of His identity, many people, including His own disciples at times; still struggled to believe. Father Chris reminds us that our generation has received an even greater fullness of revelation, yet many still refuse to believe, especially in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Christ does not perform miracles on demand or satisfy every challenge for a sign. Faith cannot be reduced to saying, “Show me a miracle, and then I will believe.” As Our Lord teaches, blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. According to philosopher/theologian Dr. Peter Kreeft, philosophical proofs can be valid proofs without having to be scientific proofs. In fact, St. Thomas Aquinas’ Five Proofs for the Existence of God shows we can prove He exists without any faith or revelation at all.Father Chris Alar, MIC, reveals how we can actually prove that God exists to those who don't believe. Then learn about the men and women of the Order of Malta and their thousand-year-old mission of serving the poor, the sick, and the imprisoned.
