If not, listen to the witness of Marcus Peter.
Peter grew up in a well-developed area of Malaysia, a predominantly Muslim country. He was surrounded by hard working and innovative family and peers who had a drive to succeed in the business world. He loved science and struggled with the notion of faith, as he thought science had all the answers or one day would. Religion vs. science was an interior battle he faced, and his solution was to turn to atheism.
Nobody could give Marcus a concrete answer on why Jesus died on the Cross for the salvation of our souls. His understanding of God was One waiting for Marcus to make a mistake so that He could punish him; and he believed worldly success had little to do with God.
He stopped believing and began speaking to others, trying to convince them by any means necessary that God does not exist and science has all of the answers.
In the interview, Marcus shares a wonderful story in depth on his journey from lukewarm Catholic, to atheist, and back to the Faith as an on-fire Catholic.
During this time, he visited several area churches and even played in the music ministry for a local Church of God. He visited other churches and was troubled by how different churches give different answers to the same basic questions.
This lack of consistency was a primary reason he came back to the Catholic Church; it also led him to a deeper study of Scripture and a love of apologetics. Whereas previously he attacked the Church, his in-depth study and search for answers led him back to it. Because of his quest for truth, he found Scripture after Scripture supporting the teachings of the Catholic Church.
God has given us the ability to read Scripture through the Holy Spirit and seek the truth.
Marcus studied Scripture extensively and has since founded the St. Peter Institute for Scriptural Studies, found at stpeterinstitute.com.
On the webpage one reads the Scripture verse, “Always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who calls you to account for the hope that is in you” (1 Peter3:15).
Always search for truth, and remember, that even in the midst of all of the confusion “The Helper, The Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” (Jn 14:26).
Remember, the truth will set you free!
