The Rosary is a reflection on the life of Jesus and Mary. Pope Leo felt there were three major societal issues of the day back then, and they are still with us today - a dislike of poverty and the simple life, a repugnance to suffering, and the neglect of the future life after death. The Joyful mysteries reflect on the simple life of Jesus; he was born in a manger. The Sorrowful mysteries remind us of his love and suffering, and how we too may be called to carry our cross. The Glorious mysteries help us keep a focus on the magnificence of heaven.
